Private Lessons

Forte has developed a series of music courses for the various age groups. Course materials are produced for each level of the Forte curriculum. Families purchase a new set of these materials approximately every six months from the school.

BENEFITS OF MUSIC

Music study can help to develop imagination, creative thinking, communication and teamwork skills
More...

Forte courses are primarily taught in small groups of up to 8 children. Learning with others in a small group is the most interesting and developmentally appropriate way for small children to learn. Forte courses have been specifically designed for class tuition. Teachers are trained in how to teach these classes and are provided a wide array of teacher manuals, resources and teaching materials.

Forte schools also accommodate older students on a wide range of intrument or students studying for exams in private lessons where the student receives individual tuition on their instrument by a trained music teacher. The length of lesson is customised to the age and requirements of the student. All tuition is generally conducted during school terms.

Piano Courses

Piano / Keyboard Courses - 5 to 11 years

If I ever die of a heart attack, I hope it will be from playing my stereo too loud.

Forte's unique keyboard courses are renowned for making learning music fun. Children enjoy the wide variety of music. From classical to rock’n’roll, in no time you will be amazed at how much they can do. Theory, listening, reading, composing, and all musical skills are developed in a comprehensive approach so your child will develop into a young musician. These keyboard courses give students foundation music skills, which are also excellent preparation for playing in a school band or orchestra.

Junior Keys - Music Munchkins

Junior Keys Course is offered for beginner students younger than 7 years old. Children not only learn to play piano but unlike traditional music training also gain a good grounding in all other musical skills including:

  • ear training for pitch (ability to identify musical notes by ear)
  • music theory (understanding the symbols used in music)
  • music reading
  • composition
  • keyboard harmony (the underlying chord structures, patterns and systems that all music is built on).

Piano Keys

Piano Keys is designed as a beginner level course for older students (8 -11 years). This age group learns differently and generally moves through the course material more quickly than younger students do. As with the Junior Keys course, Piano Keys is designed to be a fun way to learn music, and provides grounding in all other musical skills.

Creative Keys - Advancing Students

Children completing Junior Keys and Piano Keys move on to the more advanced levels of Forte courses. Course curriculum and theory texts are aligned to traditional examination syllabi, so students may sit exams if they so desire.

Private Lessons

Private Lessons - 8 years to Adult

With the physical changes that come as children grow, children from 8 years of age are able to cope with the fine motor (small muscle) demands of playing other instruments. Popular choices at this stage include guitar, singing, flute, violin, clarinet and saxophone. Schools offer these as private lessons with teachers skilled in the relevant instruments. Not all instruments offered at all school locations.

These one-to-one lessons provide an opportunity to customise a learning programme to suit you. Our student motivation programmes are designed to reward and celebrate the stepping stones and milestones on your way to a lifelong enjoyment of playing music.

Students have the opportunity to participate in performance events and exams.
